As already mentioned within the article on the welcome page, it has to be stressed again that this website deals with the topic of skyscrapers and early century buildings. A number of several skyscrapers strictly speaking do build a so-called skyline which represents a partial view or the general panorama of a city with its highest and most gigantic buildings, structures and skyscrapers.

In many cases a skyline represents a trademark or the general characteristic and/or object of a city. Fact is that many cities are famous and very popular for its gigantic buildings. In this context it has to be said that besides general and high buildings so-called skyscraper do play a very important role within the appearance of a skyline. Nowadays skyscrapers do basically form a skyline because they are more imposing, spectacular and particularly more impressive than general high buildings. Skyscrapers turn out to be gargantuan and make a great visual impact. This is also the reason why skyscrapers do always get pictured within posters of skylines or are part of a so-called Wandtattoo-Skyline, which proves to be very popular in Germany as well as in Austria. Strictly speaking posters of skylines or a general Wandtattoo-Skyline are a very favored possibility in order to decorate one’s chamber or room.

Skylines consisting of a wide range of skyscrapers are known worldwide as a sign of economic growth and dynamism. Those cities with the most and highest buildings are Hong Kong with 7659 buildings, New York with 5571 and São Paulo with 4803. When it comes to the so-called birthplace of skyscrapers it is the city of Chicago that is generally known and very popular for its ten-story Home Insurance Building. We are talking about the first house composed of a steel skeleton that was built in 1885. The Home Insurance Building can be seen as the first gigantic building in due time. Nowadays, in the area of South Wacker Drive, is the highest building of whole Chicago – strictly speaking the so-called Willis Tower, formerly known as Sears Tower. By the way, the Willis Tower turned out to be a very long time the highest building in the world.

The very first cities and towns that became famous and popular for its huge and impressive skyline, dominated by imposing skyscrapers, were both New York and Chicago. In spite of all it has to be stressed that Chicago was known for its pioneer position when it came to the topic of the highest and most gigantic skyscrapers. New York, however, turned out to be the more famous city of skyscrapers. This is the reason why New York attracts millions of tourists who want to visit its great skyline consisting of huge and impressive skyscrapers.
