Is there any NYC scraper (or high-rise) located outside Manhattan (eg.Brooklyn or Queens)?
Yes, Downtown Brooklyn and Brooklyn Heights have about ten 300-450ft buildings, in addition to the Williamsburgh Savings Bank in Fort Greene. If you mean highrises as buildings over 12 floors, there is an uncountable number much like there is in Manhattan, although to a lesser extent. There are also clusters of 20-30 floor buildings in Brighton Beach, Bay Ridge, and Flatbush.
Queens has the Citibank building which is the tallest on LI, two new apartment buildings near that of 34 and 42 floors, and also clusters of 20-30 floor buildings in Forest Hills and one other location I forgot.
Both Brooklyn and Queens will continue to grow in the coming decade, evidence in the massive rezoning happening in Long Island City and the smaller rezoning in Downtown Brooklyn, as well as several construction projects:
- Queens:
Queens West, a large residential complex spanning the East River in Long Island City. Two bldgs (mentioned above Citylights by Cesar Pelli and Avalon Riverview by Perkins Eastman) are already finshed and a third is under construction.
Metlife Plaza and 30-30 Northern Boulevard are two office buildings located near the Citibank bldg of 15 and 16 floors, slated to g up in the near future
- Brooklyn:
Metrotech Center: the office complex is finishing its 15 year development with the construction of the 32 floor, 473 foot 12 Metrotech Center (Perkins Eastman) and the 21 floor, 325 foot 9 Metrotech Center South (Cesar Pelli).
Atlantic Terminal: Atop the borough's busiest transit hub and the city's third busiest, a four story mall and a 16 floor office building are under construction (Cesar Pelli)
Light Bridges: not far from Downtown Brooklyn, a 24 floor mixed use building consisting of a base and two towers connected by a transparent bridge located in the DUMBO neighborhood next to the Manhattan Bridge. The building is currently in foundation stages (SHoP)
Schaffer Brewery site: nothing known about this except a pair of 25 floor residential buildings currently in the digging stages
