I am very interested in the topic of statistics, but updated ones. Therefore, I
am very curious to discover the exact number of skyscrapers found in NYC
currently.
DOM
There are now about 159 buildings over 151m (500 feet) in NYC. This is more
than twice of that in Chicago (2nd in the world), and about 4 times that in
Hong Kong (3rd).

There are now about 1,012 skyscrapers in New York.
That is so un true about New York having 1000 and something skyscrapers. I know they have about at leats 159 or 200 skyscrapers not 1000
Like the other person said, it depends on what you consider a skyscraper. I've estimated that there are about 200 buildings of 40 or more stories, about 1000 of 20 or more stories, and 3000 of 12 or more stories. One look at the skyline will show this.
I have every New York Skyscraper listed on my site over 500 feet and its somewhere around 180 at www.geocities.com/nyskyscrapers
There is such a wide range of answers to the "number of skyscrapers in NYC" question, because there is no clear definition to "skyscraper". Building codes define "high rise" buildings, but the term skyscraper is subjective. There are thousands of high rises in NYC, most would agree that at least 150 to 200 of them are skyscrapers.
