I am trying to put together information on the artistic works my grandfather, Joseph Aruta, did in various NYC buildings during the l930's. He painted & gilded elaborate works in such buildings as the Sherry Netherland, the Downtown Athletic Club, Bowery Savings Bank, Pennsylvania Hotel, Paramount Theatre, etc. I need any info on these works that I can get. Thank-you.
You left an email on www.greatgridlock.net referring to some murals that your grandfather pained in the 1930s in Pennsylvania Hotel NYC. Did you get much feedback, or publish anything? We are staying there in the near future
Like a blast from the past getting this response to my years-old request, thanks so much. No, to both questions, no feedback whatsoever. A trip to NYC in which I tried to take in as many venues as possible in which I hoped to see some of his work, was not terribly revealing. If I remember correctly, much of this hotel had been re-decorated, not much evidence of the original murals. But perhaps I missed some.....I'd love to hear from you after your stay. Thanks so much!
