what were some early buildings/ideas that influenced johnson to design the AT&T
building and what has his building influenced since it's erection?
How did these buildings/ideas listed influence his building?

1) Evidently the former, pre-Art Deco & International NYC architectural
language of skyscrapers, with the traditional tripartite outlining.
2) Everything, in short. The whole ("Postmodern") revival of past
styles in skyscraper architecture has largely been due to the great publicity
of the AT&T in late-1970s and early 1980s -- strangely, "every" designer has
to always jump to the latest bandwagon...
3) Most readily, the outward influences from the past styles are evident on
the exterior, as well as in the neo-Romanesque street-level lobby.
