I am doing research on the Mohawks' participation in construction of skyscrapers. I would like to interview anyone alive or a relative who worked on the Empire State Building. I will be in NYC on July 12 and 13. Anyone know anyone??? Thank you!
Greg,
I am a Mohawk from Kahnawake and was just surfing the net and happened to come
upon this site and your question. My grandfather worked on the Empire State
Bldg. until its finish in 1938. His name was Joseph Jocks, a Mohawk from
Kahnawake. There was a show about the building of the ESB last year on the
History Channel and some old man was talking about it. You may want to check
out that site.

P.S. I do remember a few of the stories my grandfather told me about the building
of the ESB. My uncles can also tell you a few. He had just returned from San
Fran. after completion of the San Fran. Bay Bridge and then went to the construction
of the ESB. Just want to know how far you got in your research. And you can also
try calling the Cultural Center here in Kahnawake 450-638-0880. Speak to Wendell.
HELP!!!
Since September 2001, I have been working on a commemorative book in
which Mohawk Skywalkers discuss the building, demise and Ground Zero work
on the former World Trade Center Twin Towers.
I have interviewed and/or gotten data from or about the Akwesasne Mohawks
who were WTC ironworkers, but I need to interview the Kahnawake Mohawk
Ironworkers, as well as gained access to photos of them at work on the
WTC.
Please contact me at (323) 735-7972 or email me with any information that
you have.
